The Diocesan Choirs Festival provides a wonderful opportunity to be part of a large choir and to sing old favourites, new music, and music which the current resources in your church may not enable you to sing.
The Festival takes place in Southwell Minster in October each year. In recent years the numbers participating have been 170–240. In some years, the festival has taken the form of Choral Evensong, in others, it has followed a theme or season. Some years a guest conductor is invited.
Music is announced well before-hand and choirs intending to participate are expected to prepare the music before attending a rehearsal at a church convenient to the majority of those taking part, prior to the festival date. There is an afternoon rehearsal in the Minster, a break for tea, and then the service and presentation of Dean’s and Bishop’s Awards.
